Child Custody Agreements

Most custody cases are resolved out of court. Robert Lewis uses the insights from 20 years of experience to assess how a judge would likely rule and to help clients find the middle ground in working out a fair and reasonable parenting plan. He examines the net worth statements of both parents as the basis for custody, visitation and child support.

The joint custody agreement will say who has primary physical custody and spell out the specifics of the other parent's visitation — weekends, overnights, holidays, summer vacation and so on. Shared custody (a 50-50 split) rarely is in the best interests of school-age kids, but we can explore this arrangement for younger children if you desire. Sole custody is never granted without evidence of abuse or other danger to the child.

Contested Custody

If you are pushing for primary custody, the court will issue a temporary order prior to the custody hearing. Prior to the hearing, the court will appoint a law guardian to watch over your child's interests, and order a home study and a psychological profile of each parent. A custody battle is expensive and divisive, and we encourage clients to avoid it. When it is necessary, however, Mr. Lewis is a courtroom veteran and hires the right experts to help convince the court of your position.
